Zombie sex would be so gross [26 Dec 2009|07:12pm]

bougieman

Order a book. Get a drawing inside the inside cover for free. Nothing could be finer. Go here:
http://cinemasewer.ecrater.com/

Of course, I flawlessly ink the entire drawing without even having to use whiteout, and then at the last second I go and screw the pooch trying to sign my name. *smacks forehead* Murphy's law.
---------

So glad christmas is over.

---------

I already had to replace the two AA batteries in my cordless mouse this new Imac came with. I guess they last for a little under a month? Every few weeks I have to buy batteries for my mouse? Huh.

---------

There is no doubt in my mind now, the new CS and SS are going to be late. This will be the first time in 12 years of doing the magazine that I will miss my deadline. It's out of my hands though. My right arm simply can't take the stressload that it used to. I'm limited to half of the daily drawing/lettering time that I used to do. Any more than that, and I risk fucking it up worse than it is, which is already pretty bad. Stupid repetitive strain injury. Don't fret though, they'll be out... just a few weeks or a month later than the early Feb. due date.

---------

I have come to the conclusion that this issue of Sleazy Slice, number 4, will be the last one for a couple years. I am putting it on a temporary hiatus. I have some other things I want to push into the forefront, comic-wise, and can't afford the printing bill to do everything I want, nor will my fucking useless chicken wing stand the effort that I would wish upon it. I guess we all knew that all that obsessive handlettering was gonna catch up with me sometime, and that time appears to be now. Is this what they call suffering for your art? Well, something has to give, and Sleazy Slice has been designated "it" for the next little while.

---------

I have signed on for a 3rd Cinema Sewer book due out from FAB press in late 2011 sometime. I am jacked up and excited! It will make the last two look like dogpoop on toast. Well ok, maybe not. But it will be good. Same dealie as before, 120 pages or so of reprints from the mag, 80 or so new pages. All gold.

Christmas Eve [24 Dec 2009|08:47pm]

It being Christmas Eve and all, I was thinking of this Christmas story and drew it up. I meant to draw it nicer, but didn't get time.  It's about family.

under the cut, because it's big )

If it helps to understand it better, I am the second oldest of four girls.

Merry Christmas, everyone! To you and yours.

My brother, my enemy [24 Dec 2009|04:22am]

Usually I'm like "GOD I wish I had the net when I was 14... just think of everything I had to go through to get to see some titty when I was that age! It was the equivalent of climbing mountains, when todays youth only have to walk over a speed bump to visually access some pink. But then this kind of thing brings me back down to earth, and makes me SOOOO GLAD that I didn't grow up in an era when the internet existed.

Seriously, I would have had shit like this happening to me all the time. Bullies must have a heyday with this online networking shit. Kids are evil as fuck, and we all know it. I mean, it would have been a mess. I would have been the laughing stock of the internet, and I wouldn't have had the maturity and savvy to know how to deal with it.

It's a miracle that half of the current preteen/teen population hasn't committed suicide due to internet humiliation. I don't mean to fear-monger, but I know there are a lot of young parents who follow this LJ. Dudes, keep an eye on this internet shit as much as you can once they hit that age, or you could find em hanging from a noose in the closet before they can legally drive.

PS: What is she talking about when she says "v-card"? (*Feels like an old man asking about kid-lingo*)

Okay, that's it for me. I'm off. I get my turkey tomorrow, and so I shall spare the world for another year.
Happy holidays, all!

This is a photo of Susan and Rebecca Dart from last year's Christmas party. I've got to learn not to expose myself at these things.

I'm just listening to this Ike and Tina song called "Doin' It" while I'm scanning and uploading these drawings, and she's singing: "You make my liver quiver!"

Quivering livers. Now there is a thought. Gross.

Everyone needs to see DARKTOWN STRUTTERS (1975). It was probably the weirdest, and (imho) one of the most entertaining Blaxploitation movies ever made. Here are two short clips to whet your appetites:

Yes, that was T.C. from Magnum P.I. in the purple tanktop and suspenders.

Happy Holidays [23 Dec 2009|05:49pm]

Although I really like giving (and receiving) presents, I don't really get into the whole christmasy vibe very often. You know, like playing christmas movies and songs, and decorating a tree, and sending out holiday spam to people on my email list.

But this is my style. This I can get behind:

HO HO NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooo!!!

The last man to lose his head, I suppose he deserved it [23 Dec 2009|12:09am]

A Scottish cartoon, since I am back home for the holidays.

I'm well acquainted with the tune "Lord Lovat's Lament," since you hear it around these parts every time anyone has to pick up a fiddle and learn something. But you know, it's one of those tunes you know so well, you pay no attention to it, it's just there in the back of your head.

Then one day, I was looking up a bunch of works by Hogarth (the best) and came upon this portrait of 'Lord Lovat'. The lovely old tune and that devily face, they didn't match. So I wanted to learn more about him!

Lovat (Simon Fraser, born 1697 - there are about a million Simon Fraser Lord Lovats) really epitomizes how reading Scottish history can make you want to tear your eyeballs out, or laugh because it's nearly a farce it's so nutty. Either the people involved are disastrously loyal, or disastrously duplicitous. Everything is a disaster, but it's a hell of a ride.

Yo, yo, check it!

Kwismus came early, in the form of this amazing gift from Mr. Phil Barrett over in Ireland-- Ay guh guh guh! (They do that right?). He sent not only this incredible hand drawn "note"

...but also he included this phenomenal piece of original artwork from the first issue of Gazebo (a cover no less)!

Phil's going to have to excuse the crappy photography; time is short. If you haven't seen read Gazebo, a remarkable collaboration between Phil and his writing partner Liam Geraghty, get over to his web-site at http://www.blackshapes.com/index.html and see if you can't order a copy. It IS one of those works that will help you see comics differently.
Phil also sent a gaggle of comics which included my favorite, The Littlest Arsonist-- a nice bit of gag work that was intended solely for yuks, but to date represents the most accurate depiction of my childhood spent with an older brother.
Phil is one of my absolute favorite chaps kicking today, and he honours me with his scribbles. Good on ye, boyo!

Christmas Part I [21 Dec 2009|09:04pm]

nora_ruth
This weekend Fritz and I went to his parents' house for an early Christmas. I sat around his apartment all day and watched movies until it was time for me to catch the metro. We put all the things in his car ahead of time, and I took the metro to his work.

The DC metro isn't too hard to get around, and it really helped that Fritz had written out the directions for me. When I got to his work, we snuck me some food from the holiday party and sat in his office area until 5pm.

The ride to his parents' house wasn't too bad. Traffic was a bit backed up for awhile, but we got there at a decent time. We hung out with his parents for a little bit and then we all hit the bed.

The next morning we woke up, and there was SNOW! We were originally going to go to Millersburg for a brunch, but instead we went to our favorite local place called Special Place. It was sooo good.

Then we opened presents!!! Fritz's parents bought me way too much stuff! And Fritz liked what I got him! Then we played cards and watched tv and just hung out until dinner. Fritz's mom made a really great pot roast with veggies and stuff.

On Sunday, we got up and had stollen for breakfast! Fritz and his dad went out to see how bad the roads were, and his mom and I hung out for a little bit. She made a really great corn chowder for lunch. When they came back, Fritz decided we could try to get back to DC.

The roads were really good on the drive back down to DC. The highways were very clear. But once we hit the GW Parkway, it all went downhill. How can we live so much closer to the mason-dixon line and these people not know how to plow??? It took us an hour to get around DC to get to Fritz's apartment. When we finally got there, my car was under 2 feet of snow, plus a drift. Fritz dug out the car a bit while I cooked dinner, and then afterwards, I went out and helped him finish.

Today after we got up, we had some stollen for breakfast again and then hung out for a little bit. I came back to Winchester and the highways were fine. Once I hit Winchester, it was a bit of a mess...again, they don't know how to plow. And when I got home, I found that no one had really plowed the parking lot, and I got to drag all my stuff through about two feet of snow. I don't know how I'll get all of this Familias Saludables stuff to the car, plus the christmas presents and luggage with two feet of snow outside the door.

We leave for NC on Wednesday morning, and we'll be there until Sunday. It's supposed to snow again on Christmas, so hopefully I'll have a white Christmas!!!

The funnest bondage scenario, and the snowball/gun showdown [21 Dec 2009|01:23am]

Dec 19th: Off-duty cop with power issues and a huge hummer brings a gun to a snowball fight. Crowd of people having fun in the snow resent it.

Honestly, you would think that this guy would have more important things to concern himself with (say, crimes?) during a massive snowstorm. He created the incident, not the people tossing snow.

I love the one guy: "SNOW IS FALLING FROM THE SKY! WHAT ARE YOU GONNA DO? SHOOT THE FUCKING SKY?!" hahaha awesome.

Also quotable... the guy who commented: "the cop should have built a snow fort in the road and held his position". Priceless. ^_^

UPDATE:
Police initially claimed that the officer did not draw his gun, but are now rethinking their position now that they have since received "additional images and statements that would seem to support the allegation that the off-duty member did pull a gun," a police statement said.

Rebecca has a total girl-boner for Michael Cera, so we watched YEAR ONE, and PAPER HEARTS. They were both actually pretty entertaining in their own ways, and we had a "tiny time" (as my Mom says). You gotta give it to her: Rebecca's girl boners are usually pretty cool and well-placed. My attractions and turn-ons are more like buckshot, blasted all over the spectrum.

We spent the day today in bed, with the covers up to our chins. Just lazing around and watching movies and the Capitals/Oilers game, and doing crosswords and just goofin'. We haven't done that in such a long time... so it was really nice! It was initiated by the fact that Rebecca was mysteriously inflicted with nausea for most of the day, and I got jealous that she looked so cozy in the bed, all snuggly warm.

I wish I were a cute cartoonist [20 Dec 2009|01:11am]

I was reading Jeffrey Brown's first graphic novel, Clumsy, this week... and I was touched by a simple, sweet moment (in a book FILLED with simple, sweet moments) wherein Jeffrey's girlfriend presents him with a unique gift:

See? Awwww. But I couldn't help thinking about how I would react in the same situation:

Above images re-printed without Jeffrey's permission. First four panels copyright Jeffrey Brown 2009 (presumably).
By the way, Leonard Wong hosted a dinner tonight for all the local comic talents, and somehow I got invited... but I completely forgot! Apologies and big ups to Leonard, who has handily organized Vancouver's Comicons past and present.

GOD dammit, why did THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX have to be so good? Now I have to revise my best of 2009 list (not to mention my best of the decade list) in order to fit it in.

Although the studios made the funniest, most screwball mistake somehow, and put the trailer hype ("Will change the way you watch movies") for the FANTASTIC MR. FOX onto the preview for AVATAR instead. hahaha! What a silly mistake! Between guffaws I mentioned the gaff to one of the ushers at the theatre, and I am told this idiocy will be rectified right away. Thank goodness!

I mean, clearly yet more overblown cliche-ridden technicolor videogame graphics (which appear in every single big budget hollywood FX movie) are not anywhere as original as wicked-ass stopmotion puppetry, the highly skilled use of which is treasured by anyone with any modicum of interest in filmic artistry (as well as awesomeness). AVATAR, with its plot cribbed from FERNGULLY (1992), and said videogame graphics depicting imagery about as fresh as a 1979 issue of Heavy Metal Magazine could never seriously, with a straight face, be considered the catalyst for "changing the way you watch movies".

Oh Hollywood hype-machine! You're just adorable! Haha, one day you'll get it right.

I did it! [17 Dec 2009|02:04pm]

I got the job! As of December 28, I will be the administrative director for the summer arts camp! I'm very excited...I think this position will look really good on a resume as well as giving me some extra income. Plus I know I can do this job...it's basically everything I did as a coordinator at NCSA.

It will be around 20 hours a week, and I'm pretty sure I can handle that with my current course load.

I'm very excited!!!!

Fritz and I leave tomorrow evening to go to his parents' house for Christmas with the Hammes. I'm making a cherry pie tomorrow to take with us, and I got another bottle of Lambrusco. If you have not had Lambrusco, you need to go get some! Seriously..it's a sweet red wine you can get for $9 a bottle at Wal Mart, it's a screw off top and it's the best wine ever!

Next Wednesday, we'll leave to go to NC to visit my family for Christmas! My mom and I have a ton of stuff to take to the post office for Familias Saludables. I don't know how we're going to get all of this stuff mailed.

A lot of assholes [15 Dec 2009|11:39pm]

bougieman
I've been doing dozens of drawings in books in the last few weeks, but I haven't been able to show you guys any of them since I didn't have photoshop and all my scans without it look like yak dung. I downloaded a 30 day trial version of CS4 for the time being, so hopefully I can get something going with PS by the end of the month. It's a band aid, but I had to get something.

So yeah, ass-spread. I draw variations of this pose a lot, I know. But you draw what you're passionate about, right? Of course you do. And ladies asses are pretty much the main thing on my mind most of the time. I'm guessing my sex drive will die a little by the time I'm 60, but until then you get 25 more years of this:

25 YEARS. That is a lot of assholes.

What? You don't have the Cinema Sewer book with a free drawing by Mr. Bougie in it? Why, that is just foolish. Who would pass up such an balls-out offer? Stop what you're doing and paypal some monies right this moment to:
